InDesign 21.4 Bug: Unable to Move Multiple Selected Objects When Dragging Over Placed Images

In the latest update of InDesign when I have multiple shapes and frames on the page selected, if my cursor is above something like a rectangle with content/picture inside it, I only move the picture that is below it at the time.

Rather than the whole selection of objects as it used to. I tested before and after the update and it was something that only broke with 21.4. If I cursor over a solid shape object while still selecting the entire group (including the photo frame) that then moves the entire section but only if cursor above a placed fill object does it break.

What could possibly be happening?

Hi, we released InDesign version 21.4.1 today that includes a fix for this issues. Please check out: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/desktop/whats-new/release-notes.html

Please update InDesign and let us know how it goes.

If you do not see the update in the Creative Cloud Desktop App, check out: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/apps/manage-apps/creative-cloud-apps/update-creative-cloud-apps-manually.html

    Thanks,

I’m also having a problem with selecting multiple objects/frames and choosing one to align all. Sometimes it works, most times it doesn’t.

A basic function of professional graphics software, moving multiple items at the same time, HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR 12 DAYS.

But hey, you create AI slop for free, instantly!

You mean you are not happy you can create a cartoon looking mouse holding an ice cream while surfing on the moon with its flip flops instead?

I gonna lose my freaking mind—12 days with this issue 😂

Every time I have to move more than 1 item (which is every 6 seconds) I curse Adobe

Having same issue with not being able to move multiple objects, and am also unable to select a key object for aligning. Has anyone been able to figure out a workaround for aligning to key objects?

Yes, all of the issues are known by now and described in this thread. There are some workarounds (also described here), but the only solution to avoid this issue entirely is to revert to InDesign 21.3: Creative Cloud app > InDesign > 3-dot menu > Other Versions

Same here. Very annoying. What helps for me is what Abishek Rao says, to hold shift when moving. Sometimes I’ll group the multiple selection quickly just to move and then degroup again…

I’ve also noticed the same issue with deselecting. Whenever you select multiple objects by dragging the cursor over it. You’re unable to deselect at least one item (mostly the bottom one in layers?) by clicking it. This issue bothers me even more!

Just in case: I wonder if you’re aware that you can revert to InDesign 21.3 (which doesn’t have this problem) until the issue is fixed, as described earlier in the thread.

Abhishek Rao, it would be great if the product team could focus on making a stable product for the people who know how to use it, rather than pumping the programs so full of AI slop mechanics that it breaks the foundational level features we’ve come to expect. Nothing upsets a designer more than interrupting a workflow, and it feels like I have to compensate for a new Adobe misstep every month.
