InDesign 5.5 or newer to Mobile Newsletter

Is there a program that will allow you to start with an InDesign file and create a mobile friendly newsletter without having to start from scratch?

I have a client that wants print newsletters to be available in a mobile friendly version, NOT a simple PDF.

Correct answer Derek Cross

You can't create a FXL ePub from InDesign 5.5, the feature hadn't been implemented until later versions.

Thanks, Derek. I totally missed the ID version in the heading.

What does mobile-friendly mean to you? There is no way to create truly responsive content with InDesign.

If this newsletter is to be emailed, use Constant Contact or Mail Chimp.

Depending on the content, a Reflowable ePub would be more suitable for mobile devices, such as tablets and smart phones (and, of course, they work reflow for computers). Though you would need a later CC version of InDesign to successfully create them.
Alternatively, if you want to stay with PDFs, you could create a version for large screens and another for small screens.

Why not create a fixed-layout EPUB? That's as mobile friendly as you can get.

With some minor adjustments, you can use one document to create both the PDF and EPUB.
