InDesign - all images/elements disappeared from pages but files still in links

Hello community,

I'm working on an InDesign document and suddenly all of my images and elements disappeared from my pages. All the links for the images, etc are still available in the links tab but I can't find out how to restore everything them the layout. All the text still remains but the rest of the elements, images, frames, etc in the layouts have disappeared.

The pages tab has been replaced with  "google pixels". I've attached some screenshots for reference.

Does anyone know if it's possible to restore the original pages as they were (so I can restore all my links and layouts).

Any help is very much appreciated!

Thank you.

Kate

try exporting the file as IDML, just in case file corruption is involved here.

That "Google Pixel…" looks like from Altternate Layout feature.

When you select an image via links panel, how are its coordinates e.g. in transform panel or control strip?

Also try the "select container" button 2nd left from the fill color indicator in the control strip.

What happens if you right click a link and select "Go to link"? I had an issue like this a long time ago, but the renaming of the pages tab to "google pixels" has me worried for you. My issue was file corruption in CS4.

It still goes to the page - the links seem to all be there. But something weird happened in the pages tab... I've never seen this "google pixels" replace the page tab name before, no idea how it got there and no idea how to make it normal again! Maybe it has been corrupted as you suggested 😞

If the linked images aren't displaying on the artboard, it might be possible that they were moved beyond the boundary of the artboard. That is something that shouldn't happen, of course. In Normal and Preview mode for displaying the artboard, nothing shows up beyond the page bounds? Can you still move newly placed objects (or even text) to the artboard beyond the page itself and have it display properly? Are you using Liquid Layout (or Alternate Layout) to automagically adjust anything for a different size or ratio than you originally set up? I've had that feature break things, very rarely, in a similar mode. In those instances, the graphics were still on the artboard, but off the page. I apologize if I'm not helping.

Did you hide any layers?

No, no layers are hidden. It just shows that the layers are all empty... but the links in the links tab are still all there. 😞
