InDesign and Illustrator running slow while connecting to server through VPN/

Hi Everyone! I am having and issue with my InDesign and Illustrator crashing/running slow/not opening when I try to connect to my work server through our VPN. This is really frustrating as I would like to complete other work while I wait for the server to connect to transfer files. My photoshop and other programs are fine, it is just my InDesign and Illustrator. Does anyone have a solution for this? It is so frustrating.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your trouble. I agree with @BobLevine. Illustrator & InDesign are resource-intensive applications, requiring more RAM and hard disk space than most other applications. While you can use Illustrator & InDesign files & links from networks, you can compromise the performance and reliability of the application. For example, Illustrator & InDesign read and write file data while you work on it. Therefore, the access speed of the disk containing files & links or scratch disk files determines how quickly apps can process the data. Internal hard disks have faster access speeds than network servers. So, if your file has heavy artwork, links, or content, then slowness can happen. I would suggest you check with your network administrator to determine if there are any known issues with the network or if a network configuration (for example, updated drivers or changed access privileges) has been changed.

I suggest talking to your IT people or checking your internet connection.
