Indesign and One Drive questions

Hi, our company is going to switch from a server to a one drive to save all of our files. I have a couple questions.

A. Can I work on a indesign file and save it to one drive without having to download it on to my desktop?

B. So right now working from a server, I have a folder with my indesign files, images, etc. But within that indesign file, there are other images that are getting pulled from different folders on the server. (logo and images we use all the time). If we move to one drive, will all those still be linked when opening up that indesign file?

D. If I have 2 indesign files open. I want to copy and paste one image to the other indesign file on one drive. Will that image be linked or do I have to place that image in that other folder where the indesign file is?

E. Will Incopy work just fine using the one drive? (packaged and non packaged incopy files)

Just trying to think of everything bad that could happen when we switch.

Anyone have more to add to this in 2025? Many questions in the original post were detailed and seem unanswered and I have some of the same questions. Mostly, I'm curious if I can drag all files from a server to one drive and keep all

thr InDesign files linked (if the folders are all moved over). There are like hundreds of folders though. Also, what is smart syncing and it's recommended I turn that off so

large files don't time out? Where do I turn that off, if so? Thanks for any help you can provide!

If you're going to do this then EVERYTHING needs to be moved including the links. Be sure to turn off any smart sync features as InDesign does have a tendency to time out if you have large files involved.

I disagree with Eugene on networks. There is no reason not to use one as long as its configured properly and is robust enough.

As for InCopy, that is a whole different story and requires knowledge of the workflow to make sure that everyone is using it properly. You need to be organized in keeping things in the right place and because InDesign lock files do not sync this way communication is going to be key to making sure nobody winds up with "conflicted copies" of INDD files.

InCopy lock files do sync so you shouldn't have issues there.
