Indesign and Sonoma

I see there was a thread back in June 2023 about this and someone from Adobe said they were currently working to update their apps to work on Sonoma. Well here we are nearly in march 2024 and still Indesign is not suitable for Sonoma. I did not realise this a month ago, updated to Sonoma on my 2 year old imac and all hell broke lose. I spent 4 hours online with adobe who concluded that I should roll back to Ventura!!! Then had a fun 4 hours with Apple trying to get the damn machine to roll back but it kept on locking up. Finally had to take it to an apple store and have them do a clean install with ventura. Thanks Adobe for making my life miserable while I pay you every month.
So, does anyone have any idea when Indesign will work with Sonoma? Will it ever work with Sonoma or are they waiting for the next Mac OS and hope it works with that? Are they actually a software company nowadays or just an engine for geberating cash from designers?

I'm struggling to quite understand your anger. While it may be a tiny bit frustrating to not be able to update to the latest MacOS yet, there is zero inconvenience and there is absolutely nothing new that is so worth updating for immediately. Being an early adopter AND being a creative with a hectic production flow does not work together all. Nothing could convince me to (even just possibly) jeopardize my ability to output work without issues. So Apple introduces a few new bells and whistles in their new OS that you would really like to play with, and you can't, and now you rant to Adobe? You sound very young, and your instant grativation syndrome is affecting your logic. Good luck with that.

I am 70 years old and have been in this business for ovwer 40 years. I pay adobe a fee every month for all their software when I only need 4 of them (I used to by the ones I needed in the older times when one bought individual licences) and I expect them to work on both my mac and my pc. Indesign works on the pc and not on the imac with Sonoma. I discussed this with Adobe and they accepted there was a problem and told me to keep checking their website for when they had fixed it. So, I pay them over €700 per annum and I expect them to have software that works on current operating systems. If it does not work on Sonoma - as it did not in late January when I had the problsem and it screwed up my mac, then it is not unreasonable for them to talk with Apple and sort out what needs to be done. If I treated my client thus I would soon loose me business.
Your supercilious attitude assuming that I was very young and having "instant gravitation syndrome" is as offensive as it is peurile and speaks volumes as to the type of person you are. lease do not reply to this post as you obvio0usly have nothing to offer except offence.

there's nothing anyone can do - update or don't update.

I've not even updated past Creative Cloud 2022 for production.

And next year I might push to 2023 or I might wait again.

Like many others, I don't update OS and/or software for a long time.

Unless of course, there's a must need new features that are a must.

Which for me there are not.

But When Indesign was released on the Minimum Specs page for InDesign - Sonoma was not listed as an Operating System.

It's up to you to ensure the software you buy is compatible with the hardware you have bought.

That's your responsibility.

I remeber buying computer games in th 1980's, 90's etc. that the policy of the computer game shop was that you ensure that the game meets your computer requirements before buying - no refunds, no trade ins - if it doesn't work it's your problem.

That's how it's always been.

I mentioned earlier I haven't upgraded past CC 2022 - that's because I work with others with older machines that can't upgrade past CC2022 due to their computer limitations.

So we all work on the same version.

It's completely up to you to make sure it meets requirements before purchasing.

The minimum specs didn't mention Sonoma.

I feel for you - and I know it's frustrating.

But for me, 99% of the problems lie with Apple.

How can Adobe ensure their software works Mac Os when they release a buggy update?
It's not possible. Then Adobe have to either work to fix the bugs introduced in the OS update, and/or Apple have to fix their bugs.

But they don't have to talk to each other.

For apple - as long as their products work they don't care about 3rd party apps.

I agree with @BobLevine . Apple was unusually slow in fixing bugs in the Sonoma builds and it took until Sonoma 14.3 until things were cleared up.

You shouldn't expect that as soon as a new macOS version comes out that it will immediately work with InDesign (or other Adobe apps). I usually wait 2-3 months before I install it on my production Mac.

I waited 7 months and Indesign did not function. I told Adobe this at that time and there only suggestion was to roll back the os to Ventura. So, in 7 months they have not worked to solve a know problem and still do not list Indesign as functional on Sonoma on their own website. If it is an apple proble, which I doubt, is it that difficult for Adobe to talk to Apple? Tim Cook's email is on the Apple website and i am sure he would be interested in helping resove this.

Sonoma was released September 26, 2023...five months ago. It took Apple several months fix the bugs that affected InDesign. Do you want help or did you just come here to rant?

If the former, there are plenty of people here that would be happy to assist but you'll need to provide details. If the latter, I hope, at the very least, you feel better.

Most of the Sonoma issues were Apple's to fix. According to most reports that happened with 14.3.

If that were the case, why are Photoshop and Illustrator are both listed on the Adobe site as fine with Sonoma but InDesign still is not. One would have thought that one large software comapny was capable of discussing the problem with another big software and resolve isuues. 7 months after that soi disant fix, Indesign still does not function properly on Sonoma.
