Question

Indesign(any version) opens ALL documents asking for 2 specific plugins!

The plugins are:

jobs model.Indesignplugin

channels model.Indesignplugin

It started doing this in the 2022 version but even if I update to the new versions it still asks for them.
To be clear, this happens with any document opened from either of our 2 work servers (one is shared by afp:, one is smb:), or documents from the hard drive, or portable hard drives. The other 5 macs at work do not have this problem when opening THE SAME documents so the documents themselves are not the  issue. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this and how to fix it?

I am aware that saving as an IDML allows you to open the documents but that's not much help when I'm trying to package 450 documents.

Thanks for any insight!

Barry 🙂

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the trouble. Can you share more details like in which version of InDesign the files were created and in which version you're trying to open the file? If you're able to open the file in any other computer, please try exporting the file as IDML and then try opening the file in that computer and let us know how it goes.

Thanks

Rishabh

Hi Rishabh

Thanks for replying.

I've done a bit of experimenting so can answer your queries.
We use InDesign 2021, 2022, 2023 & 2024. the files could be created in any of those versions and opened in any of those versions. On this mac it will ask for the plugins, on all the other macs, it wont.

However, if a document has been converted to idml (then back to indd) in any version, this mac WILL open it without asking for the plugins. This is still the case if another mac has since opened it and re-saved the document. We can tell when a file has been converted to idml because there is a characteristic glitch which transposes vertical guidelines from the right hand side of a spread to the left.

I'd rather not have to convert every one of the thousands of files we have (& all future files) to idml though, just so they can be opened on this ONE mac (when all the others open them fine) without asking for plugins.

Hope this helps

It seems possible that the Macs with the issue may be using a set of InDesign preferences that were kept when the program was updated. Keeping old preferences after an update can often lead to strange performance issues. Try trashing the InDesign preferences on the Macs in question. This will restore the InDesign program on each machine to the program defaults and will hopefully fix the problem.

To trash preferences on a Mac:

The User Library folder in which InDesign’s preferences are stored is hidden by default on most Macintoshes. To access it make sure that InDesign is closed and click on the desktop to launch a Finder Window (Command-N). With this window in column view follow the path User>Home folder (it’s the folder with an icon that looks like a house—it may have the user’s name rather than “Home”) and click on the Home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. “Library” will now appear within the Home folder. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the folder called “Adobe InDesign” and the file called “com.adobe.InDesign.plist” and delete both that folder and that file. When InDesign is next launched it will create new preference files and the program will be restored to its defaults.

The advantage of manually deleting preference in this manner files is that after you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, you can create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.
