It is not possible to EDIT existing epub files in InDesign, but it is possible to EXPORT to an epub file. InDesign is not an epub editor. To edit epub files you will need to install other tools.

There is of course the option of reading it yourself. But most people aren't skilled enough to produce many hours of interesting listening, even if they are the author.

InDesign does not edit any other format but its own (*.indd files and a few support types). It cannot edit Publisher, Quark or PageMaker files, for example.

InDesign has no capability to create audiobooks. The Adobe Suite tool Audition is good platform for sophisticated audio work.

InDesign is a very capable EPUB creator, though. Put simply, it's a matter of using clean, organized document formatting, and then exporting to EPUB using the correct settings. You can learn by just experimenting and following the various Adobe Help topics, or, if you're serious about doing a professional job, I've written a comprehensive book on the topic.

I would warn you against just searching the web for information on the topic, though. For every up-to-date, knowledgeable, useful tutorial, blog or how-to page you might find, there are vast numbers that are out-of-date, misleading or just plain lousy. It can be hard to tell them apart until you have experience (at which point you don't need them much any more!)
