InDesign Beta Build Expired - and native app support timeframe

Based on advice from Adobe, we upgraded our Surface Pro machines last year. All are ARM machines.

While we were OK to use a Beta temporarily, there have been two outages and a current ongoing outage and it is become very disruptive. We upgraded on the promise that a native app with compatibility for newer ARM machines was being developed.

My question is two fold:

1- when will Adobe release a native app?

2 - Current 21.3 Beta Build Issues:I have been dealing with Adobe support for the last four days and have been getting the same suggestions and none work. I have updated, uninstalled, restarted to get this application to work and it is just getting worse. I need help. I am at the point where I will need to cancel our subscription and throw away 15 years experience using InDesign and learn another product. I can’t keep waiting for Adobe to get their act together and provide some real support. The first error I had was Beta Build has expired. The second error after Adobe support and troubleshooting has been a 0xc0000142 error.

    Hi @Jennifer-N,

I’m really sorry to hear how disruptive this has been for you. I completely understand how challenging this situation must be. Your feedback has been noted, and I’ll be sure to share it with the team.

Adding to the expert’s suggestion, the “Beta Build has expired” error usually appears when a newer Beta build is available. Whenever you see this, please check for updates in the Creative Cloud app and install the latest Beta version. This should resolve that issue.

Regarding native support for ARM machines, I understand how important this is. At the moment, I don’t have a confirmed timeline to share, but please know that this is actively being worked on.

For the 0xc0000142 error, this is a known issue, and the product team is already working on a fix. Sharing a similar thread where this is being tracked:

If you could share the requested details on that thread, it would really help the team investigate further and move toward a permanent fix.

Thanks again for your patience, and please let me know how it goes.

I’m curious. You said you did this based on advice from Adobe; what advice was that? I can’t find anywhere that Adobe is recommending ARM-based machines.

We spoke to Adobe before buying our machines and were promised that the beta would be temporary. Listening was a massive mistake.

it looks like I need to cancel InDesign completely and learn a different program.

Hi @Jennifer-N I understand your situation here but depending upon a beta build to take decisions like upgrading machines and then getting stuck with it for production was a risky idea to start with. Now as you already know that beta is a testing build and it can go wrong at any moment. My suggestion is that you should use the mainline build for production work. Regarding the timeline for a proper ARM build, well my guess is as good a yours if the Adobe support is not able to figure it out then all that can be done is hope.
