Indesign cannot record new files on lan network drive

Hi,

We got an issue with indesign installed on 2 windows 10 computers. One has cc2020 version v15, the second computer has cc2022 v17.9.

We also use a NAS server syno ds910+ server , with a vm server 2016 as active directory.

When creating a new document on a network drive, it records at the first time, if the user want to record again after changes on the document, indesign don't record, and give the message : 'the file cannot record, the file is maybe opened in another application. Close the application and try again, or save as'.

This issue happens on both computers.

If the file is opened on the local HDD, there is no issue.

This issue doesn't appear with photoshop for example, only indesign.

Thanks for your help.

You don't mention if it just started - have you changed anything in your environment - or you just started work this way?

Most likely - your network is too slow.

Anyway, you should not work this way - work on your INDD files saved "remotely".

Hi Robert,

We haven't change the environment. The person who was working on this computer for 2 years, has left the company, and his replacement has told me that ctrl-s was not working. I realized at this moment there was an issue with the recording.

Lan speed is not very quick, and enough speed to work on lan drive.

We work for a long time on lan drive, and we never get a such issue. It means to be specific to Indesign...

So something HAS changed 😉 user 😉 maybe previous employee was aware of the problem and been working locally - using LAN as a backup / storage for the finall files ?

Unfortunately, InDesign is extremely sensitive to the access time / lag to files.
