InDesign cannot save .indd files to OneDrive folders on Windows (works locally)

I am reporting a reproducible technical issue in Adobe InDesign on Windows.

Problem:
InDesign cannot save .indd files when they are located in OneDrive (cloud-synced) folders.
The same files save correctly without any issues when moved to local folders (Desktop or local disk).

Important details:
- This is NOT a crash. InDesign launches and runs normally.
- Error occurs only during Save operations in OneDrive folders.
- Saving locally works 100% of the time.
- The issue started suddenly from one day to the next.
- Happens in multiple InDesign versions (including older versions).
- Happens with different Adobe accounts.
- Other Adobe applications are not affected.
- Full clean reinstall using Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool was already performed.

This appears to be a compatibility issue between InDesign, Windows updates, and cloud-synced folders.
I am posting this to confirm whether this is a known issue and to ensure it is visible to Adobe engineering.

Workaround at the moment: working locally and syncing manually after closing InDesign.

All I can tell you is that I have no issues saving to OneDrive folders. Running Windows 11 Pro 25H2 and InDesign 21.1.

Thanks for the info.

Just to clarify: I also had zero issues saving to OneDrive folders until yesterday.
This worked reliably for a long time on the same machine and workflow.

The problem:

  • Started suddenly from one day to the next

  • Without any changes to my workflow

  • Affects only InDesign

  • Reproduces across:

    • multiple InDesign versions (including older ones)

    • different Adobe accounts

  • Saving to local folders works 100%

  • Saving to OneDrive fails after several save operations

This strongly suggests a recent Windows / OneDrive interaction change, not a user or file-specific issue.

If possible, it would be helpful to know:

  • exact Windows build number (not just 25H2)

  • OneDrive version

  • whether Files On-Demand is enabled

I’m sharing this to help identify a regression or edge-case scenario.

Not in front of my desktop but laptop, running Windows 11 Home is build 26200.7628.

OneDrive build is 25.243.1211.0001

Hope that helps
