Hi,

I am have a real problem, copy and paste between files is not working and Indesign crashes when I do a paste.

Let me explain:

Did an upgrade of Indesign CC in Wednesday

Worked on a number of file and everything was find.

Did and upgrade of Windows 10 on Thursday and still everything was working well.

Saturday - working on two files that I was working on, on Thursday.  But when I copy the artwork from one file and go and paste it into another file indesign just crashes.

I have, just to let you the reader know, that I have uninstalled and reinstalled Indesign and that has made no difference

I really would appreciate any help and advice with this.

All the very best and thanks for reading.

Kind regards

John

We have provided an update to CC2018 to addressed crashes and bugs.(If the updates are not available select "Check for app updates" option in Creative cloud application.)

    Refer Release notes - https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/release-note/indesign-cc-13-0-1.html

If you still face issue, Please restart your machine.

I have the same or similar issue.

Keeps crashing, i found its often when i have CC library links. Or copy and paste grouped linked or more than one object.

It also crash when i select the other document.

So i can select and copy object. Then when selecting the document to paste in, it just shuts down.

Turning of PDF copy/paste didnt do anything.

    Edit:

It also crashes if i try to Embed the linked CC-libarary objects. Its random, its not all objects and some objects works sometimes only.

    Hi Nalfaren

Did you by any chance reload Indesign 2017?  I would be very interested to know if your problem went away.

All the very best for now.

    Kind regards

Hi i am working on a timesensitive pallet design for PlayStation at the moment, the bugs have slowed me down a couple of hours. I will try using the older version later tonight. Ill get back to you then. Now i must manually recreate some parts and make sure they are exactly on same placement and size

Just a small observation: no crashes if I turn off the PDF-clipboard functionality in InDesign Preferences → Clipboard Handling

    Hi Blumenberg

Thank you for shearing this tip.  I am wondering though, is this Indesign 2018?  As looking at your screenshot I cannot see at the bottom of the list "Touch Workspace"

Maybe the missing preference section is not available in the macOS version? But it’s definitely the actual Adobe InDesign CC 2018 version.

But could you reproduce the «workaround» to fix the crashes?

Same shit here. I can paste nothing into InDesign without crashing it, even not from Illustrator. I hope this will be fixed soon. Working without simple copy and paste is a pain in the ass.

    hi guys,

I am the originator of this post and have been trying to work a way round it so that I can continue to use indesign.  I don't know if this will work for anybody else but it has worked for us.  Go into Adobe cc: and look on the right hand side next to the button that says open and you will see a pulldown menu.  In this pulldown menu you can roll back to older versions of indesign.

We loaded indesign 2017 again and now we can use indesign 2018 without any problems (so far) pasting, copying, resizing seems not to be a problem and everything seems to be working just fine.

It is not a perfect situation but it lease the software is working and you can get on with your work flow.

I would love to know if this works for any other people in here?

All the very best for now.

    Kind regards

So you have both versions installed in order to make the newer version work properly?

    Hi John,

    Thanks for writing to us.

Can you please share some more details for helping us narrow down this issue at our end:

    1. What artwork are you copy pasting(e.g. some Illustrator file, some native InDesign elements like rectangle, text frame etc)

    2. Are you copying from one doc and pasting in other?

    3. Is this crash happening everytime. If yes, please share the document having this element it would be great help.

Also, Please report the crash on the crash reporter dialog that prompts after crash.

You can send the doc @monsingh@adobe.com

    Thanks

    Hi Monica

Thank you for the questions which I will try to answer.

    1. What artwork are you copy pasting (e.g. some Illustrator file, some native InDesign elements like rectangle, text frame etc)

I have tried copying Illustrator files (vector) text and images from one advertisement to be placed in another file as a banner.  Each time I copy the file, whether as a collection or singularly indesign crashes

    2. Are you copying from one doc and pasting in other?
YES but the files have only been created this week so they are not old files

    3. Is this crash happening everytime. If yes, please share the document having this element it would be great help.

Currently, it seems to be all documents.  I have tried a number of indesign files, with copy and paste and each time in design just crashes and paste.

Also, Please report the crash on the crash reporter dialog that prompts after crash.

unfortunately, I have never seen this, where would I find the reporter?

All the very best for now.

    Kind regards

    John

If you did not delete previous preference files when you updated to CC 2018 then I suggest that you do so. I have seen several instances of issues that appeared to be bugs fixed by getting rid of old preference files.

    To do so:

Hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift when launching InDesign and respond affirmatively when asked if you want to reset.

To manually delate preferences on Windows 10 Delete (or rename) the folder at the end of this path: C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>. Make sure that InDesign is closed when you do this. When you relaunch the program it will create  new preference files and the program will be at its default settings.

I recommend that after you’ve reset preferences and have redone all of your settings as you like them that (after quitting the program) you make a copy of this new “pristine” version of your preference file and save it for future use. It is a big time saver to be able to trash preferences and replace them with a version that is already as you like them.
