InDesign CC crashes every time txt is edited

I have tried reinstalling, deleting cache and ID keeps crashing. I get the spinning wheel on a simple delete or font format and then it crashes. I have also tried exporting the file as an IDML but it crashed before output.

The file is not that large - approx. 44Mb with only a small number of images and 123 pages. It was fine last week but now it seems that all files are behaving the same way.

Does anyone have any ideas as I am desperate

Thanks in advance/

Emma

Can you please provide more information –

    • Reproducible Steps – What were you doing when InDesign crashed?
    • Error snapshot or video recording of the issue?
    • Is(Are) the issue related to a specific document(s)/asset(s)? If Yes, Can you please provide the document(s)/asset(s) at santalwa@adobe.com?

Is this only happening on one file or on anything you work on? If it’s only one file then hopefully you have an earlier backup to see if the same thing happens with it.

Try resetting your InDesign preferences to see if that helps:

Close InDesign. Then hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and relaunch InDesign. Respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences.

Also see if unticking GPU Performance, found under the GPU Performance tab, helps.

Can you give us more details, so we can throw out some ideas?

    What is your OS?

    InDesign Version? applied all updates?

    Font management?

    Working from a server?

Using Mac Time Machine? (if so you can retrieve a copy of your file from last week)

    Cleaned the font cache?

Reset preferences? (I believe you need to select this as an option when re-installing)
