Question

InDesign CC, EPUB 3 and Typekit

I'm completely new to EPUB but I (hope I) keep to good practice generally in terms of paragraph, character styling and so on.

Playing around trying to get the feel of it - exporting my book (all text typeset but no graphics yet), EPUB 2.0.1 comes out nearly perfect. But EPUB 3 omits the fonts, even though I have "Include Embeddable Fonts" checked.

I am using a Typekit font which I understand is licensed to use for EPUB.

I suppose I can just export in the older format but I'd like to understand the what and why.

Any advice gratefully received!

Ruth

I just did a test page (Reflowable text ePub 3), using the font Mrs Eaves without any problems.

Derek - what are your specs? And what are you testing it on?

CC2018 on High Sierra.

By the way, as users can change the typeface to suit their requirements I wouldn't worry too much about being precious about a special font.

Hi Ruth,

I'm sorry you ran into trouble here. We tested this in EPUB v2 and v3 from InDesign. The Typekit fonts were embedded correctly.

Could you tell me which Typekit fonts you've used in this document? Also, which version of InDesign do you currently use?

Let me know and we'll take it from there.

Cheers,

Benjamin

I think a better question might be, “which epub reader was this tested with?”

Thank you.

I am using Mrs Eaves Roman

Mrs Eaves | Typekit

I am using InDesign CC 2017 on Windows

I have tested it on Adobe Digital Editions 4.5 and also on iBooks on iPad (still early days yet!)

Hope this gives you enough info to go on!
