InDesign CC painfully slowing entire computer

When I open InDesign on my Mac (with plenty of space and speed) it painfully slows down my entire computer.  I'm talking a 60 second delay.  My mouse moves around just fine, but everything else takes forever to load or do anything - even the preferences tab to force quite took many minutes.  I tried updating it, and it still happened.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling CC 2015 to see if I could work on that instead, and the problem only got way worse.  I eventually was able to uninstall that.  Now I don't know what to do.  I don't use it very often, however I use Illustrator CC every day and have absolutely no issues there.  Got any tips?
