InDesign Click Issues – Elements Moving & Selections Resetting
I have a problem using Adobe InDesign. When I click on something with the cursor using the left mouse button, something different happens instead of a normal click. I'm not exactly sure what, but I think it might be a combination of a double-click and what I’ll call a "deselect click" (I'll explain what I mean in a moment).
For example, when I click on an element, like a text frame, nothing happens at first, as if the program is lagging, and then the element moves slightly. When I try to edit an image within a frame by double-clicking on it, the image inside the frame is selected for a brief moment, but then the selection jumps back to the frame itself.
Another example: When I have a text frame selected and want to apply a paragraph style, I click on the corresponding style in the Paragraph Styles panel. Initially, the paragraph style is highlighted (as if it worked correctly), but a fraction of a second later, the cursor briefly changes to the grabbing hand (as if I were holding the mouse button), and then the paragraph style is no longer selected, and no style is applied.
What is happening here, and how can I fix this?
It's not caused by my mouse, as the same issue occurs with the trackpad. This also only happens in InDesign—everything works fine outside of it. Strangely, some interactions in InDesign still work normally. For example, when I hold the mouse button and draw a selection box, everything is selected correctly without shifting.
I tried to delete the cache and to reset to default settings. I also tried different versions of InDesign. I'm currently using InDesign 20.0.1 with macOS 15.2. But it also happens with InDesign 2024, InDesign 2023, … although I have not yet had the problem in 2024 and 2023. I tried to start InDesign in Rosetta.
Nothing has helped so far 😞
