Try resetting the InDesign Preferences to see if that sorts the issue out.  You can do this under the General tab in InDesign Preferences, then closing and reopening the application.

Hi @adelad86177394,

Sorry to hear about the repeated crashes. Could you confirm which version of InDesign you're using and share the details of your operating system? Also, does the crash happen when you try to open a specific file or does it occur right when launching the InDesign app itself? When it closes, do you see the Adobe Crash Reporter window? If yes, please submit the report and share the email address you used via DM, so I can check the logs for you. Here’s a reference on how to submit crash reports: https://adobe.ly/46s7MLK

In the meantime, please also try the suggestions mentioned in this article and let me know how it goes: https://adobe.ly/46EB74l

Looking forward to your update.

I had the 20.5 i tried installing and uninstalling it multiple times, but it only lasted for one session. Finally I got tired and downgraded to 20.4 and so far seems to be working ok

Just reinstalling by itself rarely fixes anything. Did you try the troubleshooting suggestions listed by @Abhishek Rao?

Another list can be found here:

Also, what's your operating system version, and how much RAM do you have?

It's good that you at least can use 20.4, but ideally you'd want to solve your issue with 20.5.
