Question

InDesign Crashes shortly after opening file

We are opening a specific .indd file that is about 20MB. Shortly after opening the file, once we start scrolling through the file, InDesign will freeze (Rainbow Wheel) and we have to "Force Quit" to close.

Actions:

- Attempted in Safe Mode and issues persist

- Tested on different M1 and M1 Max devices

- Verified that InDesign and macOS is updated to current versions

- Checked Activity Monitor and InDesign reads "Not Responding" with no other items taking up any CPU

- Cleared out all Library/Preference folders and attempted an uninstall and clean install

- Disconnect from Wifi to try and test if Cloud Libraries Sync was the issue

Anyone have any steps to try?

There could be corruption in the file. Saving it as an IDML file can sometimes remove corruption. Choose File > Save As > InDesign CS4 or Later [IDML]. Open the IDML file.

Hello Steve,

Thanks for the reply. I did just try that and the .idml file seems to be doing the same thing. I open the file, scroll down a couple pages and receive the rainbow wheel...

Also, I do apologize that I'm not super familiar with InDesign myself. I am a Systems Engineer working with Graphic Designers on the issue.

Do you have an backup of the file?
