Question

InDesign crashes when I duplicate a page

When I duplicate a page InDesign crashes. It's not everytime but it seems to be most times. Think it may have something to do with have Grouped text/image selected and then duplicating. Not sure. New bug as of most recent update.

Please fix.

Every new Adobe update either breaks Photoshop or InDesign recently.

Incredibly hard to do my job.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your patience on this. I checked with the product team, and they confirmed that a bug was already logged for this issue, and the fix is included in the latest InDesign PR build.

The team recommends testing the PR build to validate the fix. You can access it by following the steps in this blog:
How to Join the Creative Cloud Prerelease Program

Please give it a try and let us know if the issue is resolved for you.

Looking forward to your feedback!

Same here after the latest update. Has nothing to do with the document. Happens with all documents and new documents too.

This bug persists. Would love if it was fixed soon.

Yes I can reset preferences and save as idml and avoid duplicating pages until this is fixed.

I am very familar with InDesign bug workarounds.

But it is really awful that such a simple function crashes the whole program and that it's left unaddressed for weeks.

Put simply, InDesign used to work better. Whatever novel new features are being added at the expense of basic functioning of the program cannot be worth it.

If you're using InDesign 20.1, try to revert to an earlier InDesign 2025 version (you can do so from the Creative Cloud app; find InDesign, then Other Versions menu).

Quite a few users reported a similar issue in InDesign 20.1 (in particular, when copying objects and pages by using the Option key).

Same Problem here. I found out, this only happens, when an object or text frame is selected and I try to duplicate a page.

Dragging spread to "Create New Page" button at bottom of Pages window (to duplicate spread) crashing consistently.

Right click menu "Duplicate Spread" works fine.

Try IDMLing - export as IDML, open, save with a new name - do not overwrite your original file.

There is a very quick and easy solution for the problem with updates - turn OFF auto updates and don't update when a new major version is available - wait few months / minor updates, till it get stable.

And you can always have more than one major version installed - do not remove / uninstall previous version when installing a new one.

Dies it happen with every file or with a specific one only?

Did you try the IDML repair route?
