Question

InDesign crashes when I update a placed photo in Photoshop

I make a change to the photo in PS then go back to the selected photo in InDesign. InDesign immediately crashes and shuts down. I figured out that if I deselect the photo I want to adjust in PS then ID does not crash.

I have InDesign 20.1 and PS 26.4.1.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix or a better workaround?

Thank you

Hi @mksgrafix,

As requested by Robert, could you share your OS details and confirm whether your files are stored locally, on a server, or in the cloud?

Crashes like this can sometimes be linked to how InDesign updates linked files. Does this happen only with a specific file, or does it occur with any linked Photoshop file? Try testing it with a new InDesign file and let me know if the issue persists.

Also, every time a crash happens, the Adobe product team can investigate crash logs submitted via the Adobe Crash Reporter. Since locating logs is like finding a needle in a haystack, sharing the email used when submitting the report helps speed up the process. If you haven’t submitted one yet, please do so and DM me the email, so we can check: Submit Crash Reports.

If possible, a short screen recording of the workflow leading to the crash would be super helpful.

Looking forward to your response.

You forgot about platform and OS version.

Also, do you work locally or your files are stored on a server / in the cloud?
