InDesign crashes when I upload data to data merge

Sorry to hear about the trouble. Please share a few more details like:

1. The version of InDesign & OS.
2. Is this happening with a specific file or multiple files?
3. Is the file saved locally or on any network or external drive?
4. Does it get stuck after selecting the data source or it crashes and gives you the crash reporter window?

Looks like something must've changed in the past 8 months?

Have you updated InDesign? 

Have you edited datasource?

Have you reinstalled your computer? 

Have you edited your document? 

Etc. 

Etc.
