I open a new file
I am shown the fist to grab and move around the page.
When using the text tool, I am show the fame tool but instead of drawing the frame a fist appears to move the page on the work surface.

However I can not work on it e.g. adding a text frame, image frame, it feels like its locked.
I can however add new pages.

I already deinstalled and reinstalled InDesign
I also did a software update on my Mac.

Any ideas?
(I use InDesign since 3 years, but now I am lost and hope you have a good idea I can follow to gain access to my work again.)
Thanks a lot for your support.

If a document is not behaving well then try

File>Export

Choose IDML

Open the IDML in InDesign
Save the file as a new InDesign file with a new name
See if the issue persists.

=======

Try resetting your preferences:

Windows: Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
macOS: While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.

Reinstalling rarely fixes everything - you can do a complete reinstall using the
Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
