InDesign crashes when using Data Merge in version 20.2

In version 20.2, I can not perform a Data Merge without InDesign crashing.

Luckily, my laptop is not updated, and using the same files in InDesign version 20.0.1 works fine. Is anyone else having problems with this?

Hi @rogerinlondon,

I tested your files on InDesign 20.2 on both Windows and macOS, and everything worked fine on my end. I also checked for any crash reports submitted under your community email but couldn't find any. Could you submit one and share the email address used (via DM on the community) so I can check the logs? reference: Submit crash reports.

Additionally, is the crash happening only with this file? Try creating a new document and running a Data Merge to see if the issue persists. Let me know how it goes!

Hi Abishek,

Thank you for looking into this. I have followed the instructions for the crash report, and it was enabled in the preferences (maybe you can tell someone that right-clicking is ctrl-click and not cmd-click on a Mac as it says on the web page?), but the report does not come out with a Send button as I recall these reports used to have in the past (see attached below). Have I got it wrong somehow?

This is an example where it crashes when creating the merged document on my desktop running InDesign 20.2 and MacOS 15.3.2. When I use them on my laptop, running InDesign 20.0.1 and MacOS 15.3, it works fine. If no one else has noticed this, I guess InDesign on my desktop may have been corrupted somehow. I have actually not tried to reinstall it yet, I guess I should.......
