InDesign Crashing at Loading Screen

  • August 26, 2024

Everytime I want to open InDesign - it immediately stops opening itself at the loading screen. The only way I've been able to get it to open is by uninstalling then reinstalling the app - every time.. This seems to be an issue across the community. Hope this is in the works to be fixed stat. We pay for these apps, would be nice if they worked.

Your versions of InDesign and the operating system?

If you're on Ventura or Sonoma, make sure they're updated.

Hi @K8Z26,

Sorry about the freeze! I know that's really frustrating. In addition to what our expert has suggested, would you mind sharing with us a few more details about the issue?:

  • Please share a screenshot of the panel at which it is crashing or freezing.
  • Did you use the CC Cleaner tool to uninstall the app?
  • Submit the crash report by following the steps suggested here ( https://adobe.ly/4fW9Lud).
While submitting the crash report, please use the same email address with which you are signed in on this community. This will help us find the crash report and help accordingly.

Also, I would suggest you try the following steps(for macOS) and let us know if it helps:

  • Try running the app in Safe Mode  (Mac) & Root account (Mac)?
  • Close all Adobe applications and manually reset preferences by renaming the folders from the following locations:
    ~/Library/Caches
    ~/Library/Preferences
Rename Adobe InDesign and com.adobe.InDesign to Adobe InDesign.old and com.adobe.InDesign.old and
launch InDesign from the Creative Cloud app
  • Rename the CEP folder to CEP.old from the following location:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe
  • If that doesn't help, rename the UXP folder to UXP.old in the following location:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe

We are here to help and will wait for your response.

Thank you,

Abhishek Rao

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
