InDesign crashing when I try to delete, cut, or paste over a specific Index Marker

InDesign crashing when I try to delete, cut, or paste over a specific Index Marker. This happens regardless of if I am editing in regular mode or story editor, or using the Index> Refference panel.

 

I am able to remove other Index Markers no problem. 

 

This is a big problem for me as I budgeted the time allowed for this project based on the idea that I would be making minor edits to a large document created last year. This one specific Index Marker is getting in my way. I am dreading the idea that I will need to recreate the entire document.

Save or export es IDML, open it, save as INDD. Then go on to work.

When I save or export to IDML, I cannot open the file in InDesign. I get this message <<Cannot open the file "XXXX.idml". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.>>
