InDesign CS5 Slow Screen Redraw

I've upgraded from the CS4 Suite to CS5. InDesign is almost impossible to use, the screen redraw is painfully slow. Much slower than CS4, which was instantaneous. Anyone at Adobe want to clue us in to what's going on? And yes, Live Update is off. This is an awful step backwards.

Running 20 gigs of ram.

    maybe it's helpfull for you.

Just got of the phone to Adobe Support after 1 hour of messing around and was left with the advice " put a message on the forum to let Adobe know there is a problem" Thats what I thought I had just done!!  HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!!

I have  a Mac Pro - Quad-Core Intel Xeon etc etc etc.... The screen re draw is woeful and the bigger the file the worse it gets. As far as fixes to prefs is concerned, been there done that. Jump though hoops with the Adobe tech and still no fix. Looks like I'm heading back to good old reliable CS3.

    ADOBE SORT IT OUT.

Havin the same problem on an HP xw4600. The 'Live Screen Drawing' option set to 'never' didn't help at all.

Pretty darn worthless. Losing my temper with Adobe.

Our office is having the same issue. We have 10 Macs running CS5 and it is unbearable how sluggish InDesign is running. We have turned the setting to “never” as suggested and it has helped. I hope this is conformation that a real problem exists. We might have better luck here then calling the 800#. That was the biggest joke of a customer service experience I have taken part of in years. To be honest, it was surreal. I won’t bore you with the story but stay away.

Thanks and I hope this helps with the solving the issue.

Report it to Adobe with full system details. The more people they hear from and the more details they get the better chance of a fix.

I have just loaded the entire CS5 creative suite onto my iMac 9.1 (64-bit capable) including InDesign CS5.  I was having exactly the same problem, I have used Illustrator and Photoshop with no noticable problems with speed but when it came to Indesign it was painfully slow to move/resize/edit anything!

After much searching I found that Snow Leopard automatically boots in 32-bit mode and I used the "hold down 6 and 4 buttons on boot" to boot in 64-bit mode thinking this was the problem but it had no effect at all, however I now know that I was in 32-bit mode not 64-bit like I thought!

I then found the suggestion of turning off Live re-draw:

Go into Indesign Preferences > Interface > Options - Change "Live screen drawing:" to delayed or never

And hey presto my Indesign CS5 was back to super fast speed!

I'm really disappointed that this is the only solution i've found but I wanted to post it because it was driving me round the bend and i had to search several forums to find all the info I needed so now I've put it all in one place!

I am going to try this trick, and if it works...I am eternally

    grateful for your suggestion!

Just left for my vacation...going to stay away from files for a bit.

    Thank you!

I am having the same slow issues with the same system. Driving me crazy. Keep getting no memory messages. Ugh. I like the features but hate the slowness.

I remember back in the day that we could go in and increase memory in PhotoShop and illustrator. I can't figure out how to do this in InDesign. Photoshop and Illustrator are painful too.

I need help. They need to fix this ASAP.
