InDesign CS6 Interface does not longer react

Hi everybody,

I'm running InDesign CS6 on Win7 - and that was all fine until now...

Now, the interface does not react to input anymore. I first encountered this problem when I was using / attempting to use the page dialog. There I can no longer add new pages, move existing ones around, or create new ones. I can add new pages via the menu though.

Likewise, I can no longer use the tool bar (on the right) - no tool can be selected here.

I tried to update the software, but it tells me that it is already up to date.

Is that a known issue? How can I fix it?

Kind regards,

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your reply which solved the problem, i.e., InDesign is now responsive.

However, working on a 4k display the text and everything is now really tiny. Do you have any idea, how I can keep InDesign working, but having comfortable font size back again. The corresponding lever was set to 150%, before I reset it to 100%.

Thanks in advance - and of course again in afterward,

InDesign CS6 is not optimised for hi-res screens, you need to upgrade to CC2015/2017 to have this facility.

Try trashing your InDesign preference:

Close and relaunch InDesign, and IMMEDIATELY hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences. You must be extremely fast on the keyboard (if you don’t see the confirmation prompt, you were too slow).

You may need to do this a couple of times before getting the hang of it!

Dear Derek,

Thanks for your reply. It did not solve my problem, but I've learned an interesting new feature of InDesign.

Have a nice day,
