Question

InDesign CS6 no longer works…

I've been using InDesign CS6 with Creative Cloud for years---that's what the publisher I work for uses. No problems until today, when I opened it and the PDApp opened and said the trial version had expired. There is no trial version---I've been paying $20+ a month for CC, and everything was fine until today. There was a power outage last week. Did I get signed out, and did that ruin my ability to open/use CS6. The online and phone support was no help---they just told me to get the latest version, which isn't an option right now.

Did you try signing out of the CC Desktop App and signing in again?

Do you have a backup image of the program folder from when it was working? Overwriting the current folder with the backup copy might get you working again if the sign-out/in doesn't.

That was a good idea. I tried that, and did have a backup copy, but it
didn't work. Not sure if it would help to trash some preferences or caches.
Thank you!

I know you don't want to hear this, but it's a decade past time to update your workbench.

Keeping CS6 running, in 2024 and beyond, is like still driving your first car because you like the steering wheel.

I agree, but I do some work for a publisher in another state, and this is
what they are using. What I don't get is how it was fine for about five
years, through last week. When I tried it today it would not open.

Because the software is finally aging out of even legacy support, and Adobe no longer maintains the validation server for it.

The publisher is going to have to update as well — if not today, or tomorrow, or in 2024, then not much longer.
