I continue to get this message when trying to data merge a simple CSV Excel document into InDesign, help!

What application are you using to save/export .csv ?

Is comma the delimiter for the .csv ?

What settings for the .csv are your using: UTF-8, UTF-16, etc. ?

The error message is clear as to what the problem could be.

So, 1) what file format is the file you are choosing? (could it still be in excel format, with the extension changed, instead of re-saved as CSV?

and 2) Please post a screen shot of the first few lines of the excel doc.

I created a new file as a CSV format. It absolutely has records. Fields for columns are Name, Table...and it is a list of guest names and their table assignment. (For seating cards)

Are you willing to share the CSV file (via dropbox or other file-sharing service)? If so, I (or some other user here) can take a look at it and see if we can pinpoint the exact problem.
