I need some expert assistance wrangling Data Merge for my work. I'm in the Atlanta Metro Area (Morrow) and would love to talk to someone local who knows Data Merge well and discuss the project I'm working on.

Thanks for reaching out and apologies for my delayed reply!

Currently, I was provided with an MS Access database that has all the
parts, drawings, and detailed descriptions of several hundred items we
fabricate/sell in my company. All this data is in three separate tables
that feed into a form that can be printed out as a sample "spare part
sheet", but MS Access does not handle vector image formats, so the .pdf
output is less than stellar.

The process for creating these spare part sheets is currently archaic as
they are put together by hand in Illustrator, one at a time. This is
time-consuming and lends itself to numerous opportunities for human error
such as typos, version inaccuracies, etc.

I'm trying to change this by turning all of these loose pages into a
catalog so we can handle them through InDesign templates and DataMerge
synchronization. So far I've been partly successful, but DataMerge can only
link up to just one data source (and it needs to be in .csv format), and
there is very little information that I could find out there regarding
plug-ins such as DataLinker or 65bit that allow you to do multiple sources.
Also, I am not a programmer, so some of the options discussed were outside
my realm of knowledge.

If I were to achieve this, it would simplify my current workload incredibly
and also improve the accuracy of the documents as they would be driven by
the actual database, rather than having to cut & paste or manually type out
content. Eventually, this tool would be adapted for the creation of not
only spare part sheets but manuals and other types of technical
documentation.

Is there anyone out there that has dealt with a similar scenario and been
successful? Please let me know if you require more detailed information, as
I am looking for all the help that can be provided!

Thanks in advance!

My bet is this is much too complicated for InDesign's Data Merge, but would probably be quite easy to do with one of the commercial catalog plugins that are available.

Can you describe what you need here - perhaps someone can help you remotely or over chat here?
