InDesign - Default Override Local Formatting

Hi,

is there a way to always override local formatted text when applying a paragraph style? I mean, using the keyboard shortcuts CTRL + numb. for applying a paragraph style on a text whit local formatting (es. copied from Word), I have always to reapply the style clicking with ALT on the style name in the styles window.
So is there a way to apply the style with the "remove local formatting" on by default that also work for CTRL + numb. application? (Of course keeping the character styles).

Nope, not in 'one go'. However, clearing overrides is available as a separate command, take a look here:

Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts > Text and tables >

Clear All Overrides  >  Shift+Alt+O

Clear Character Overrides >  Ctrl+Alt+O

Clear Paragraph Overrides >  Alt+O

Also you can use the Paragraph Override button at the bottom of the Paragraph Style Panel. It's here in Control Panel, too.

The easiest way to get rid of local formatting from Word - not allow it to come to your ID document. If you're placing files (File>Place...) ensure Remove Styles and Formatting from Text and Tables is checked in Import Options. If you prefer copy/pasting, in Preferences > Clipboard Handling, section When Pasting text and Tables from Other Applications choose Text Only.

In both cases text will come with your default paragraph style applied, and no overrides!

Not quite sure what you mean, but if you‘re Placing (don’t use Copy and Paste) a Word document into an InDesign document you can use InDesign‘s Microsoft Word Import Options facility to match Word styles (Paragraph and Character) to InDesign styles.

Thanks for the answer but that's not what I meant. It's not merely a Word import or "copy and paste" thing, it concern InDesign itself.

I would like to just apply a paragraph style using the keyboard shortcut function I've assigned to it on a text that have some local formatting and override that. If I try it now, InDesign apply the style, but if there's the + symbol near the style, I've to reapply it by clicking on the style name holding Alt button. So basically the keyboard shortcut that you can assign to a style while creating it, it's almost useless in case of text with some local formatting.
Is there a way to properly use the keyboard shortcut instead of Alt+clicking on the style name?
