This is a consistent problem. After I open InDesign it does not show as a running app in Windows Task Manager. What is going on here?

Indesign 18.5 x64

Windows 22H2 Build 22621.2134

Correct answer dv8kiwi

The issue related to the Extensis plugin (thanks Peter Spier)

In the Extensis plugin settings (plugin preference settings within InDesign under Type>Connect Fonts>CF auto-activation preferences menu) I disabled the "Activate fonts in embedded objects" option

I have done the complete reinstall. This is still happening. The significant factor is that it can't even be force-closed as it doesn't show in Task Manager!

Must be a third party app

Try starting in safe mode and see if it happens there

Also it takes a very long time to close, about 2 minutes! And because it doesn't show in Task Manager it can't be force-closed. I have reset prefs, removed cache and reinstalled.

How are you doing the clean install?

Reinstalling rarely fixes everything - you can do a complete reinstall using the
Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Hi @dv8kiwi ,

Thank you for reaching out. Please confirm if you can see other Adobe or InDesign tasks in the Task Manager. Also, does InDesign eventually show up if you keep working on it for some time or it's still missing? Please share a few screenshots or a small video capturing the task manager processes. We'll try our best to assist you.

Thanks

Rishabh

Thank you Rishabh,

I have now done a complete clean reinstall, and it is now showing in Task Manager as it should. But it is still taking over 2 minutes to close even with no documents open

Do you work over a network? Especially have fonts installed "remotely"?
