Question

InDesign doesn’t recognize a glyph correctly

Hi everyone,

I wanted to report an interesting bug I came across while using certain OpenType typefaces, including Latin Modern Roman (it’s the standard LaTeX font). It appears that the software fails to recognize a ligature corresponding to f-f-i letters, even though this ligature is clearly listed in the glyph set.

The problem disappears immediately when I turn off ligatures option. What's even more interesting is that InDesign does display this ligature correctly. It just repots a missing gylph at the same time.

Of course, this problem doesn't occur with any other typesetting software, like LaTeX or MS Word, so the typeface itself is not likely to be the source of the problem.

Could anyone confirm that they also have this issue?
Thank you all in advance for your assistance!

Sorry - I don't have that exact font.

InDesign display is not always entirely accurate, unfortunately.
I have a version of Latin Modern Roman - and the ligature applies ok - and it's the same as the glyph for the ligature in the Glyphs panel.

Without further info it's hard to know.

What are your open type settings for the glyph?
How does it output to PDF?
Is the font embeddable in PDFs?
