Indesign doesn't work after import of graphic file and changing the text flow

I tried to add a graphic file to my InDesign book project in which many other images are included ... now I'm at the point that I add another TIFF file (tried different) and wanted to change the text flow around the graphic. That's the point my InDesign doesn't work any more - it just shows the "hand" pointer and no entries at the menu or the buttons possible - I have to stop the program by hard end via my Mac tool.

I packed the old file into a new one, I splitted the pages into several files, I also disabled the preflight - the result is all the same.

So, I hope that the community or ADOBE may have a clue how I may continue my work. Actually it is trash if no solution is available.

Thank you very much

Markus Stein

P.S. I use Indesign 2024 from Creative Cloud on my iMac 2023 with 16 GB

Correct answer Eugene Tyson

If a document is not behaving well then try

File>Export

Choose IDML

Open the IDML in InDesign
Save the file as a new InDesign file with a new name
See if the issue persists.

----

Try resetting your preferences:

Windows: Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
macOS: While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.
Further info and instructions here if needed:

Reinstalling rarely fixes everything - you can do a complete reinstall using the
Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Eugene,

thank you very much - that seems to work. I already re-installed the program before, also no result.

So hopefully your hint will work in the future.

Again THANK YOU 🙂
