InDesign: Empty Timing Panel

I'm having a recurring issue where the Timing panel for interactive elements goes blank.  It'll have the normal menu there working properly, but then randomly only display as a blank gray box.  Is there a way to fix this without having to completely uninstall InDesign?  I work on lots of interactive documents and keep triggering this somehow. I can't keep losing hours having to uninstall the program over and over. Understanding why this is happeing would be helpful. 

Is there a quicker way to fix this? Does anyone know what causes this?  Is there a setting I should be avoiding?
