When I export a piece in InDesign, it creates a Ai file, not a pdf. And it opens with Illustrator. Help!

Hi Jane, thanks for the info.

I figured out, based on what you said that i didn't have Acrobat installed! All's well now.

    Hi Jenny,

Most likely, it is a PDF and you just need to change the association of the extension .pdf to open in Acrobat. This is done within your operating system.

    Mac

In Mac Finder, right-click a file and choose Get Info. In the Get Info window, for Open With, select Illustrator. Be sure to choose All Files.

    Windows

In Windows File Explorer, right-click and choose Open With > Illustrator > All Files.

Illustrator can open all PDFs. That does not mean it’s a good idea, though. If you were to put the file on another computer with the proper file association, the icon would change.

    Hope this helps,

    Jane

What operating system and what version of InDesign are you using?
