InDesign failing to open

Hello. I am having trouble opening InDesign on my mac after no problems for many years. All of a sudden it has stopped working. I can get as far as opening a document but then I just get the revolving wheel and I have to force quit. I have tried resetting the preferences. I am running inDesign 2020 on High Sierra. Any suggestions please?

You are using an old version of InDesign on a very old operating system. If you haven't tried resetting preferences, that's the first step, but you're really falling way behind on upgrades.

Thank you Bob. I think you are right. I need to get up to date to solve the problem. I think I will take it in for a major service and upgrade
