InDesign File Suddenly Corrupt on Mac – No Recovery Available

For the second time in a few months a book I have designed (two diff books) in indesign has failed to open and suddenly given me error codes. Gives me an error window and says Indesign is shutting down. With NO recovery.

This is on a brand new Mac. File worked yesterday. Tried to open today and it's corrupt. I am at a HUGE loss. First document was 90 Pg. of a Company profile I ended up recreating... Now i'm on a second book running into the same problem.

Do I understand correctly that you don't have any backup of your work? Or did all backup copies also get corrupted?

Long complicated way... yes First time got none back. This time got half back. So much changes day to day. The diff from one day to next was drastic..

I'm really sorry to hear you've run into this again, especially after putting so much work into both projects.

To help look into this further, could you confirm your current macOS and InDesign version? Also, please let me know if this is happening only with these two files or if you've seen similar behavior with others. If possible, try opening the file on a different machine, in safe mode or user account and let me know what happens.

Thank you for responding. For several months I was having difficulties with files becoming corrupt and not opening then crashing Indesign. Files not exporting properly. Half black jpegs etc. all out of Indesign.

After losing the first book I was provided a new Macbook pro M4 pro 48GB memory.
I am running Mac OS Sequoia 15.5

Some people in my organization have had an error occasionally but not to the extent of loosing work.

Are you working off the local hard drive, or some sort of cloud storage?
