Question

InDesign file to the cloud

I would like to try working with cloud documents in InDesign (I'm a bit sceptical). To do this, I would like to upload a few documents to the cloud. The help text says that I should upload these files via the Cloud app. When I try to do this, I get a message (which I find rather idiotic) saying that Adobe Cloud cannot process this file format (InDesign!). So the help file seems to be wrong. What is the correct procedure?

There's no confusion. I did exactly as described on the relevant Adobe help page. That means the information there is incorrect. But why am I so naive as to believe what I'm told?

By the way, I have a project that also consists of around 50 files, which I would now have to open and save with InDesign in order to benefit from this dubious feature. Why is it so complicated? (Side question: Why can I upload files in other formats to the cloud without any problems?)

But let's leave that aside. I've managed very well without cloud documents for years, and I'll continue to do so.

You may want to explore other (currently, more robust) cloud solutions such as Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive then. You won't need to resave your InDesign files to move them to the cloud (among many other benefits).

Hi @wernerh7161219,

I understand the confusion here. InDesign cloud documents can’t be uploaded directly via the Creative Cloud desktop app like regular files. Instead, you'll need to open the document in InDesign and then use File > Save As > Save As Cloud Document to move it to the cloud. This will convert it into the right format, so it can be stored and accessed from any device. Please give it a try and let me know if you’re able to save your files successfully. Refer this article as well: Save and access cloud documents

Looking forward to hearing back.
