Indesign file turned into illustrator!! Help!!

Question

Hello, im having a problem with an indesign file. I had this file with written information in it. I saved it and when i tried oppenning it around 2/3 months later i saw that the file changed (by itself) to illustrator. When i opened it.. All the information was gone. I openned it with indesing but the information was not there either. Please help, what can i do? And why would this even happend?

What operating system? What version of InDesign?

Only way is if the file association was mixed up - which can happen on different Operating Systems from time to time.

Mac - file associations

Windows - file associations

If the file is ok it will open in InDesign using the File>Open from within InDesign.

If the information is gone -then there is something corrupt about the file.

Do you have any backups?
Mac OS has Time Machine - do you have this option?
Windows OS has "Previous Version" - have you activated this?

Did you back up your files anywhere? Dropbox, Google Drive, separate drive???
