Indesign file won't open- error says damaged file

I'm trying to open an indesign file off google drive. Has been working just fine before this but now it crashes my indesign app and says that the file is damaged. My coworker is able to open the file just fine on his end. I tried opening it as a copy to try and repair it and it says it's unable to repair. I've tried dragging it to my desktop as a copy and it won't copy over. Can someone help please?

Have your co-worker save it with a new name and see if you can open that.

I am also having trouble opening a file I have been working on for months. Seems to have happened after the latest update. I have tried opening as a copy, allowing Adobe to try to repair the file, emailing it to Adobe Help, opening on other computers and with other versions of InDesign. This appears to be an Adobe issue because now I can't open ANY files without getting an error message or the software crashing. What do I do now??

First thing to do is trash your preferences: Reset InDesign Preferences and Other Troubleshooting

If that doesn't solve the crashing problem, uninstall InDesign, run the cleaner tool (Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool to solve installation problems ) and reinstall.

For possibly damaged files that won't open, try Martin Fischer's script to blind-open and export to .idml: Blind open and IDML-export.

If you use Windows you can also try the repair tool at INDDRecovery — a program for restoring corrupted InDesign documents
