I opened files that i was working on in December 2025 - tweaked something - and could not save. FILE IS DAMAGED!

no matter what I do - anything I touch cannot be saved as an indesign file.

    Hi @dpark1911,

I’m sorry you’re running into this. I can understand how stressful it is to suddenly see “file is damaged” on everything you try to save.

Adding to what the esteemed expert has mentioned, we’re seeing this behavior linked to a recent Windows update in several cases. There’s an active community thread discussing the same issue here as well:
    https://community.adobe.com/questions-671/indesign-files-corrupted-and-unable-to-save-after-windows-11-update-kb5074109-january-2026-post-2-1546893/index3.html?postid=7484108#post7484108

We’ve also published a HelpX article with the latest guidance and steps to resolve it:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/error-2-or-crash-during-file-save-operations.html

Please go through the suggestions shared there and let me know how it goes. If the issue persists after trying those steps, do share your OS version and exact InDesign version so we can look into it further with you.

    Looking forward to your update.

    Abhishek

Are you on Windows? This is a known problem with a Windows update.

    Check out:

    Option 2:

If you need to, install the previous version. You can have multiple versions installed at once.

See if you have the same problem with the previous version.

(Close your current file and don’t save.)
