Question

InDesign for PC (v. 20.3.1) local fonts not working

Have a PC InDesign (v. 20.3.1) user who cannot get OTF or TTF fonts to activate in any Adobe software.
After having:

  • Uninstalled all all Adobe apps (including CC)

  • Run the Adobe CC cleaner tool as recommended + rebooted the system.

  • Reinstalled Adobe CC & InDesign

I’m posting here to see if anybody has had similar issues.

Am a Mac user, so I’ve got PC blindspots. Grateful for any insight here.

Many thanks!

Hello @mbrendler,

Could you share the name of the Font and its Font Foundry for a specific font you're having trouble with, so I can check it on my end?

Also, try to run Illustrator under a different administrator account (macOS) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi @Anubhav M , thanks for your prompt reply.

The font is Basetica from the 205TF foundry.

Hi @mbrendler,

Thanks for sharing those details. Could you please check if the Basetica font is installed in the Windows Fonts folder or the user-level fonts folder (C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Fonts)? InDesign sometimes doesn't recognize fonts installed only at the user level, so try moving the font to the system-level Fonts folder and then restart the machine.

Also, ensure that Protected View settings or any font management utility (like NexusFont or FontBase) isn't interfering with font activation(test the issue in Safe mode. If possible, try testing on a different Windows admin user account to rule out profile-specific issues.

Looking forward to your response after you try the above steps.
