This is happening all the time i’m running the most up to date version and most up to date version of windows. I acces files on drop box could this be causing the issue?

    Correct answer Abhishek Rao

    Hi everyone,

Thank you for your patience and for sharing all the detailed observations and troubleshooting steps. I’ve now logged this as a bug with the product team, and the issue is currently being investigated. I’ll continue to keep this thread posted as soon as I receive further updates from the team.

In the meantime, the current workaround is the one already mentioned earlier in the thread: please try disabling the Generative AI options in InDesign Preferences via the Edit menu and then test the workflow again to see if that helps prevent the freeze while placing or updating files.

Please let me know if disabling those options improves the behavior on your system, as that information will also help with the investigation.

Thanks again for your support and patience while we work through this.

    Abhishek

    Hi @Mememedia,

Thanks for reaching out, and I’m sorry you’re running into this. I understand how frustrating this can be. When you say “most up to date”, could you please confirm if you’re on InDesign 21.3 and Windows 11.

Could you also let me know if you see the Adobe Crash Reporter dialog when the issue occurs. If yes, please submit the report and share the email used via DM so I can check the logs from our end. You can refer to this guide: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html

Since you’re working with Dropbox, please try opening and working with a file saved locally on your system and confirm if the issue is limited to Dropbox files.

Additionally, please test the behavior in Safe Mode and in a new user account to check if any third-party apps or account-specific settings might be causing this. You can use these steps:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-your-pc-in-safe-mode-in-windows-92c27cff-db89-8644-1ce4-b3e5e56fe234
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/manage-user-accounts-in-windows-104dc19f-6430-4b49-6a2b-e4dbd1dcdf32

In the meantime, please try resetting InDesign preferences using the steps at the bottom of this link and see if that helps:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/setting-preferences.html

Let me know how it goes, and I’ll be happy to assist further.

    Abhishek

Make sure that in Dropbox Sync preferences, Available Offline is checked. Otherwise you can have issues in InDesign.
