I have the same problem using command W (Screen Preview)

Lasso freezes too - especially with the patch tool.

Make sure you're updated to the latest InDesign version: Under InDesign CC (Mac) or Help (Win) choose About InDesign. Current version is 13.0.1.

There was a bug that caused some crashes with the Eyedropper in an earlier version of InDesign which has been fixed.
