InDesign Freezing, Invisible Cursor, and Tool/UI Glitches After Latest Update

We just updated to the latest version of InDesign CC. Now the cursor does not respond, and the tools are not accessible. We have to restart the computer many times already—12 times a day so far since the update. Closing the app does not work; it goes back to idle ghost mode after 10 minutes. When selecting type and modifying text, the type does not show. We move elements and then cannot move them back. When selecting text, it highlights, but then the app stops working. Placed images disappear, come back after 5 minutes, disappear again, and then the app crashes. We have reinstalled the app twice already, same issues. What a nice update! Kudos to the InDesign team—now you've done it. My projects are delayed. Looking for a solution PRONTO.

Thanks for reaching out, and I’m really sorry to hear about this experience. I understand how disruptive this must be, especially when it’s affecting active projects and daily workflows.

Adding to the expert suggestions, could you please try testing the issue after disabling the Generative AI-related preferences in InDesign Preferences and then check if the behavior improves?

Also, could you please confirm the exact InDesign version you updated to along with your operating system details so I can investigate this further?

The first steps are to reset the prefs (especially if you tired to migrate them from an older version) and to clear the cache. See  Reset InDesign Preferences and Other Troubleshooting
