Question

Indesign freezing when using Text tool or selecting text

Hi, I'm having issues with InDesign freezing when I use the text tool, select text, use paragraph styles, and move text-wrapped photos (and more).

Things I've tried that haven't solved the problem:

  • Clearning caches
  • Uninstalling/reinstalling apps
  • Using an older version of InDesign
  • Clearing Indesign preferences
  • Restarting computer
  • I've also tried the suggestions in this thread: Solved: Re: InDesign freezing when selecting text - Adobe Support Community - 8617667, which was to "Navigate to Preference->Advance Type -> Type Contextual Controls and disable the first preference “show for Character Alternates, Fractions, Ordinals and Ligatures”

For reference, I am on a Macbook Pro (Monterey), using Indesign 17.4.

Are there any other solution that I can try? Any help would be appreciated!
- Hannah

Oh! That sounds really serious.

Ok, I would do a bug report for all of the new issues after updating to InDesign 17.4.0 on MacOS.

One bug report for every single issue on InDesign UserVoice:

https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs

When done best come back and post the link to the report so that others could easily vote for a fix.

@hannahf90169281 ,

I think you also need Adobe Customer Care support:

Similar issue after updating - only in Adobe Suite! Spacebar makes InDesign quit or asks to save the file so I can't even type.

Hi @hannahf90169281 ,

are you on Monterey version 12.5.1 with your machine?

Did the issues begin after you:

[1] Updated your MacOS ?

[2] Updated InDesign 2022 ?

Hi Uwe,

Yes, I'm on Monterey version 12.5. My Macbook Pro is only two weeks old, so it's on the latest version I believe.

I had to install all of the Adobe apps on my laptop when I got it, so everything has pretty much started "from scratch," but I haven't had this problem with InDesign until this week.

Thanks for the link, Mike. I've tried several things on this list, but not all, so I will experiment some more.
