InDesign ignores PluginConfig.txt

Hi all!

I'm having a weird issue with an installation of InDesign 2024 on MacOS. I use a plug-in that I normally load through a PluginConfig.txt placed in the Preferences folder. This always works fine. Multiple machines over many years. I even wrote a small app to switch between conflicting plug-ins that uses this method.

Except for this installation. The plugin works when I place it in the Plug-Ins folder, but not when I place it somewhere else and direct InDesign to it with a PluginConfig.txt.

Often when InDesign is being weird I can find other people talking about it on here or Reddit, but not in this case.

Has anybody perhaps encountered this issue before? Does someone know what the solution could be?

Many thanks in advance!

The contents are like this:

=Path
Macintosh HD:Users:%USERNAME%:PLUGINTOBELOADED.InDesignPlugin

This just seems to be broken in 19.4.

Try to change it to POSIX path:

/Users/<username>/PLUGINTOBELOADED.InDesignPlugin

InDesign 19.4 stopped using HFS paths (although I don't know if it affects the PluginConfig.txt file config).

Yeah, this fixed it! Thanks.

Now something else seems to be broken too since this update, because the plug-in seems to cause InDesign to freeze after start-up. But yeah, it does load the plug-in.

Just the path to the plug-in that InDesign needs to load. Like normal. : )

But it looks like 19.4 is the culprit.

Maybe this will help:

I am seeing similar behavior after the update to 19.4.

Ah! Interesting!

Yeah, I can confirm that another machine also stopped working after updating to 19.4.
