InDesign is a zombie after 2023 upgrade

I have a Mac desktop  (2017 I think?) and just upgraded to InDesign 2023.  Old version was fine.  After the upgrade I can't do anything.  App opens but nothing happens when I select menu items--submenus won't open.  If I select sonething from the toolbar, say the text tool, I can't click in the work area and type something.  It's not hung/frozen--it's a shell that doesn't respond to any commands.  Any ideas?

In the Apple Menu under “About this Mac” you can identify from when exactly your machine is. Which OS version do you run?

After updating to a new version, try restoring your InDesign preferences and caches. Often fixes these problems:

The following is not a solution, just something to get you back up and running again. The Adobe Creative Cloud app allows for the simultaneous installation of multiple versions of InDesign. Are you able to run an earlier version?
