Indesign issue: Text display is glitchy/disappears when editing paragraphs

I am trying to edit my book, and every time I click in the text box, the paragraph or whole page disappears. The content is still there. It just isn't viewable. If I zoom in or out, it reappears. Similarly, when I scroll through the pages, the text display gets jagged within lines or offset in the middle of the paragraph. Again, if I zoom in or out, the display corrects itself. I am having to zoom in/out for every correction. This is very irritating and is severely hampering productivity. The following list of issues do not apply in my case:
- I do not have overset text.
- I do not have formatting conflicts caused by "Break text" or "Keep" options.
- The text does not wrap any objects.
- I am using Cambria font, which I have used for my last four books and never had a problem with.
- There are no hidden characters on master pages.
- I have broken the book into chapters, with each chapter being a separate document. The chapters are less than twenty pages each, so I am not dealing with documents of excessive length.
- My Indesign app is up to date.
- I am running a high performance ASUS with a 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900H (2.60 GHz), 64-bit operating system, 16.0 GB (15.6 GB usable).
I have attached a screenshot of the problem. You can see that a portion of page 35 has blanked out, starting in mid-line. How do I fix this display bug?
